Completion of the installation of weather stations

30th October 2016

CATEGORY: CACAO, HONEY AND WORKSHOPS

On the 21st October 2016, the second of the two phases of the weather station installation was completed, along with Adapt Project training on “Climate surveillance and phenology”.

Complete climate and phenological observation of cacao and honey is the first step to success for the Adapta Project. 20 Observing Producers have come forward as volunteers in order to collect daily data such as the temperature, the air and soil humidity levels, the rainfall… They will also make observations on the development of their cacao plantations and the behaviour of the beehives. All this will only be possible due to the installation of the weather stations by the project and the training that the producers and their families have received.

We want to know how climate and weather pattern changes are affecting the zones of Nicaragua chosen for the Adapt Project (Provinces of Matagalpa, Jinotega and Nueva Segovia), how these changes influence cacao and honey production, and what actions the producers can take to adapt and maintain, and even increase production.
